Marble and Designs:Luxury for your home

Bathroom by ArchitPhotoThe large middle-class villas that were built at the beginning of the twentieth century are true palaces, full of marble statues and bright white walls. Today, these modern townhouses inspire us to make our contemporary interior excellent and luxurious. In this article, we introduce you to the applications of this luxury material. This particularly elegant material can be used in many rooms: in the bathroom, the kitchen, for the walls, the floors, sinks and so on. The marble not only reminds us of the graceful past but also gives the house an elegant and almost royal appearance.

From a geological point of view, Marble Handicrafts is made up of marble, which is a metamorphic rock that comes from limestone, which became marble after a long process. The most important component of the bull stone is calcium carbonate, which assumes different colors depending on the geological conditions in which it is formed. Because of the beauty of the rock, it often has an important place in architecture and sculpture. Most of the important buildings of the Greeks and Romans are made of marble. Nowadays, marble is no longer widely used for home construction, because it is rather expensive. But we make an exception for sculptures and decorative floors. Take a look with us at a number of enchantingly beautiful examples, in which marble plays the leading role.

Wooden handicraft

Wood in different ways at home

Who doesn't want a real eye catcher in his house? You know it, from those houses with beautiful wooden beams, a robust wooden floor or a wall with wooden handicraft. I love it! Not only do I find wood very beautiful, but I also give it a lot of atmosphere and character in your home. In this blog I therefore want to give you tips on how you can use more wood in your home!

Wood in the house?

I would like to change my living room, because I think something is missing. Sometimes it is very difficult to get enough atmosphere in an interior. Wood is therefore a good solution! Something I really like is wagon boards on the wall. This not only gives you more atmosphere, but it also looks super cool. Like the picture below in combination with a steel door. Wow!
In addition to being able to use wood nicely on the wall, I also love oak floors. I think that's so cool! It gives a lot of atmosphere and you bring a lot of warmth into your house. In addition, it is also easy to keep clean compared to floor coverings. And the advantage of an oak floor is that it lasts a very long time. With an oak floor you create a tough and robust look in your home.

Tough table

You can also use the oak boards from HOUTvakman to make a table or cupboard, for example. This allows you to make it to your own taste and you have a table that nobody else has. Or have a customized table made, that saves
you time

Oak beams in an old jacket

A house gets a lot of atmospheres when you use more wooden handicraft  in the house. Now I also understand that you don't just want to use wooden furniture in your house. Do you have a high ceiling? Then opt for old oak beams. With these beautiful beams, you are assured of an attractive, authentic and lively appearance. It fits well in a rural interior, but certainly also in a sleek and modern interior, so that the whole becomes more lively.

About WOOD professional

I regularly see on Instagram or Pinterest that people opt for wood more often, but I would not know where you could buy it. That is why I have visited several hardware stores a few times, but I did not find exactly what I was looking for. I decided to look it up on the internet.
And then I came across HOUTvakman.nl. Highly recommended, because HOUTvakman.nl is an online wood specialist. You can come to them for a wide range of various wood products, such as oak, Douglas, spruce and various types of wood, as well as special barn wood planks. In addition, you can also order custom made oak beams at HOUTvakman.

5 times wood as construction for your house

Wood is a very versatile material. It is easy to apply yourself. Wood can be untreated, painted or even completely concealed. You can apply it in the interior, exterior or as a construction material. You can process it traditionally or very sleek and modern. Wood from sustainable forests also falls under sustainable materials, so you are in the right place too.
Below are five examples of how you can use wood as a construction material.

1. Solid wood

Solid wooden construction with a sufficiently high insulation value due to the way in which the wooden boards are glued together. This construction is completely made of wood and you can keep the wood in sight both inside and outside. Of course, you can add another material to it if you prefer. Purely applied, this construction method is completely biobased. Even the connections are made by means of dowels (wooden pins). The façade parts are manufactured in the factory and are mounted on-site as complete walls.

2. Timber frame construction (HSB)

HSB wood as construction is the most common method in the Netherlands. A-frame is made of wooden posts and a beam on the top and bottom of the wall. The walls are set upper floor and the floors are laid on them, then the next floor on the floor again. The space between the posts is filled with insulation and the wall is finished on both sides with sheet material. These walls can be used both as inner walls and as a filling in a brick-like construction, as well as for complete construction. This system is very easy to make in advance in the factory, but can also be built on site. You can easily build yourself with HSB. All conceivable finishes are possible on the inside and outside. Often you cannot tell from a home that the construction is HSB.
The structure of the timber frame construction, the outside and inside finish can be adjusted to taste. The structure of the timber frame construction, the outside and inside finish can be adjusted to taste.

3. Straw construction

In principle, straw can stand on its own, but insufficient tests have yet been done that the municipality allows this. The strength of the wall relies on the wooden construction that is in the straw wall. In fact, we are talking about wood as a construction. Different methods are used. Usually, the uprights are placed at such a distance so that exactly a straw bale fits in between. In one method, thicker wood is used for this than in the other method. This is usually a system that is built on location. Due to the fact that the straw cannot get wet, the construction and the roof are often built first and then the straw walls. In that situation, the wood alone must be strong enough to support the roof.
In Ecodorp Bergen they build the walls prefab in a shed and the walls are only then put in place. They take a little thinner wood because the starting point is that the straw also helps in the strength of the wall. The wood here, in fact, forms an auxiliary construction. ij only put the roof on when all the walls have been set.
Straw construction is also very easy to do yourself. The straw is usually finished with a foam layer on the inside and a clay or lime plaster layer on the outside.

4. Log construction

The entire trunks of trees are used as a building material. They are delivered fully customized and numbered as a kit for you. You can put this together yourself. Bear in mind that for the Dutch climate it is still necessary to insulate this construction. This is best done on the inside, then the appearance of the tree trunks remains intact. On the inside, you can choose a finish with sheet material or wooden fake logs.
Traditional round logs are not used very often in the Netherlands.Traditional round logs are not used very often in the Netherlands.

5. Stack wood

This method uses the same construction principle as log construction, except that the components are specially manufactured. These can have a sleek design or a more rounded finish, as if the whole tree trunks. This variant has a higher insulation value than log construction, but not as good as that of the previously discussed solid wood system. There are also systems on the market that stack with relatively thin boards. These are often used for garden sheds. You can apply this for your house if you add sufficient insulation.

Insulation can be placed on the inside or the outside. This depends on what the walls and facade want to look like. There are also systems where the outside is made of thick wood and on the inside the insulation is finished with boards as if they were stacked parts.

How do you clean marble?

Marble or other natural stone types such as Belgian hard stone, Chinese hard stone, slate and limestone often have a porous surface, which means that the natural stone absorbs dirt and liquid substances very quickly. You should always take this into account when cleaning natural stone. Below is an overview of how you can maintain the best marble or other natural stone types with a porous surface and a high lime content.

Cleaning marble - If you have spilled soft drinks, orange juice, cola, wine or even water, make sure you absorb the marble as quickly as possible with a clean damp cloth, remember the longer you wait the deeper the stain. Afterwards clean the floor with an acid-free natural stone cleaner, any old-fashioned house, garden and kitchen tricks such as the use of soda and hydrogen peroxide may also work. Afterwards clean the marble again with clean water and dry the floor with a wiper or cloth.
Tip ! Always be careful on marble with acids such as cleaning vinegar, anti-limescale but also rotting leaves in the fall. Most types of natural stone contain a lot of lime, and acid has the property of breaking down lime. These spots are often irreversible and you will have to take other measures.

Marble floor maintenance - well maintained natural stone is half the battle, with proper use of the right resources you can enjoy a beautiful marble floor for years. For daily or weekly maintenance of your marble, we advise you to wet your floor with a Spanish or normal mop. Add a dash of noble soap or a handful of flakes of green soap to clean mop water once in a while. This also applies to excessive damage, if you use the green soap too much, you will eventually build a kind of wax-like layer of fat on the marble, dirt and dust will more easily adhere to this layer of wax, which eventually results in a floor decay. This is of course not the only way of marble maintenance, on the many different natural stone blogs you will also find other ways to maintain your natural stone.

Protecting marble - preventive protection of natural stone is also possible, so-called impregnation of marble has its advantages. Reducing stains and shedding dirt are a few advantages when impregnating marble. There are also impregnating agents with a color-deepening function, which gives natural stone a beautiful authentic appearance. The impregnation of marble has a much lower frequency than the daily maintenance of marble, if you apply this once a year this is sufficient.
